Depor shock Real Madrid
September, August 22, 2008
Real Madrid's defence of their Primera Liga title got off to the worst possible start as they were beaten 2-1 at Deportivo La Coruna.
Alberto Lopo scored the winner for Depor seven minutes into the second half at the Riazor, just four minutes after Ruud van Nistelrooy had cancelled out Mista's opener for the home side.
Barcelona were also beaten, going down 1-0 at newly-promoted Numancia, with Mario Martinez netting the only goal of the game.
Atletico Madrid swept to a 4-0 home victory at home to Malaga, with Diego Forlan scoring twice, while Johnny Heitinga and Florent Sinama-Pongolle also found the net.
Almeria secured a fine 3-1 win at Athletic Bilbao, while an Adrian Colunga goal earned Recreativo Huelva a 1-0 victory at Real Betis.
Getafe ran out 2-1 victors at Sporting Gijon, with Francisco Casquero netting the winner just three minutes from time.
The games between Osasuna and Villarreal and Racing Santander and Sevilla both ended 1-1. |
